AYDIN. Many traders have more or less switched to auto pilot in preparing the final exports for the season. Only the demand for Ramadan prevents the market from coming to a complete standstill.

Exports are to slow down

Turkey has shipped more than 36,000 mt of dried figs overseas this season, 12% less than last year. Market players estimate the remaining stocks in the free market at 8,000-10,000 mt and hope that these can be sold domestically. Problem is that the quality of these figs is hardly suitable for export.

About 1,000 mt of dried figs have been exported since January. Experience shows that suppliers will not be able to maintain this pace. Market players had initially estimated the export potential for this season at a maximum of 50,000 mt.
