Dried figs: toxins still a problem

AYDIN. Trading is largely subdued. Elevated ochratoxin and aflatoxin levels are a problem for Turkey's dried figs in the EU.

Subdued trading

According to forecasts temperatures will range at 0-6C at night and at 10-17C during the day in Aydin this week, occasional rainfalls are also expected.

As in other dried fruit markets calmness prevails. Raw fig prices have, however, not declined. Raw material and export prices continue to remain at pre-New Year levels. Yet, exporters have noted a slight increase in returns due to elevated aflatoxin and ochratoxin
