AYDIN. Fig trees in Turkey's Aydin region are dropping their fruit and market players are speculating about the cause. Meanwhile, increased costs in various sectors are also expected to push up the price of dried figs this year.

Heat causes speculation

The first rumours are circulating in the Turkish dried fig market that the extreme heat of the last few days is already causing yield losses. Smaller fruits are currently falling from the trees, although market players are not entirely sure whether this is due to the high temperatures or whether it is simply excess fruit set being shed so that the remaining figs can develop normally.
