Dried figs: Turkey expects a 20% larger crop

AYDIN. Turkish dried fig farmers have to hurry to prepare their plantations for the coming season due to the warm temperatures. Global dried fig production is expected to increase by 9% in 2024.

The coming days are crucial

Temperatures in the Turkish dried fig region of Aydin have been moderate, but in the coming days there should be a rise in temperature to 28-38°C, which is appropriate for this time of year. The comparatively cool weather so far has slowed down the early development of the fig trees. Growers now have to hurry again to prepare their plantations for the new season. The problem with male figs falling from the trees persists and it will be almost two weeks before it is clear what consequences this could have for the 2024 crop.
