Dried figs: Turkish production far below average

AYDIN. Turkish fig production remains largely unaffected by last week's frost and snow. However, exporters are calling for more support in processing return shipments from the EU with elevated aflatoxin levels. Dried fig production in Turkey in 2024/2025 was significantly lower than expected.

Figs are not affected

Since the beginning of the year, there have now been three major frost events with sometimes greater, sometimes lesser effects on crops in Turkey – in February, March and now last week, the latter of which is said to have resulted in the most serious agricultural frost damage in the past 30 years. The entire Turkish food sector, from growers to processors, traders and retailers, will feel the economic damage. Last but not least, local consumers, who are already having to contend with huge increases in food costs, will also be affected.
