AYDIN. The quality issues in Turkey have deterred buyers. This is shown in the most recent export figures.

The aflatoxin contamination of part of last year’s crop has resulted in great differences in price. Although the availability of high quality figs is limited, subdued demand has resulted in stable export prices.

With 41,200 mt Turkey has exported considerably less dried figs this year. Traders have warned their customers not to enter new contracts without previously examining deliveries. Buyers have already sent back container because the aflatoxin contamination was too high. The EU limit is 2 μg/kg for nuts, dried fruits and grains.
