AYDIN. In view of the poor quality of the 2016 dried fig production, Turkish traders are stocking up with the remaining commodities, so that there are hardly any more available quantities on the market.

Compared to other dried fruit such as apricots and sultanas, the export of dried figs only starts at the beginning of October due to the later harvest. The stocks should allow Turkish suppliers to deliver dried figs to their customers already at the overall start of the season on September 1st. Due to increasing shortage, market players suspect that there could be a price increase of up to 500 USD/mt during the further course of the season.

Whole figs surprisingly constant
Not even 1,000 mt of dried figs were exported from Turkey last week. While the total exports compared to last year dropped by about 5%, the export volume for whole dried figs was able to remain relatively constant with a decrease of just 0.7%.
