NUR-SULTAN/OTTAWA. As Kazkhstan, Russia and Canada are confronted with heatwaves flaxseed production is expected to sharply decline in all three countries. Traders have already reacted swiftly.

Heat generates enormous damage

A high degree of uncertainty has gripped the market. With temperatures ranging above 40C (104F) in the most three important producing countries in the last few months the damage is severe. Less seeds have formed in the pods and yields will certainly range lower. Pests are causing further damage in Kazakhstan. Market players report that concerns over possible supply squeezes have prompted US buyers to issue enquiries in Europa. Issue is that Canada will not be able to meet demand on its own.
