Flaxseed: expectations for the 2025/26 season

OTTAWA/BRUSSELS. According to official figures, Canadian flaxseed production in 2024/25 was lower than expected. Forecasts for the coming season are at a similar level.

Sowing forecast comparable to 2024/25

According to the latest report from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Canadian flaxseed production was slightly lower this season, mainly due to lower yields than originally expected (1.35 mt/ha). Although the average yield still increased by 12.3% year-on-year to 1.28 mt/ha, the 201,000 ha, or 15.9%, smaller acreage meant that production fell by 5.5% year-on-year to 258,000 mt. This also reduced the total availability for this season by 13.9% to 432,000 mt.
