NUR-SULTAN. Due to the ongoing drought, experts have significantly reduced their estimates for the new the flaxseed crop. The Kazakh Grain Union (KGU) reckons a significantly lower acreage. Meanwhile, buyers and sellers can hardly agree on a common trade price.

Crop forecast lowered due to drought

Drought has taken a heavy toll on the growing regions in Kazakhstan and Russia. As a result, the Kazakh Grain Union (KGU) has significantly reduced its crop estimate for the 2021 flaxseed crop. As grain and oilseed expert Evgeny Karabanov told AUDITOR's editorial team, the KGU now only expects an acreage of around 1.385 million ha, whereas at the end of June the forecast was still 1.437 million ha (-3.6%). However, official data from the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture are not yet available.
