MOSCOW/OTTAWA. At the end of December, Eastern European agricultural media reported that Russia might consider restricting flaxseed exports. Kazakhstan's exports declined by 34% compared to last season, and there were hardly any shipments to China. Germany sourced a large part of its flaxseed imports from Russia so far this season.

Goods come mainly from Russia

There are hardly any offers for flaxseed from the Kazakh market at the moment. Thanks to its large crop last year, Russia is moving to the forefront. The supply is huge and the traders want to sell promptly. However, as prices are still very high despite the slight decline, buying interest for spot purchases is limited. Many buyers have already stocked up for the coming months. Polish traders offer brown, cleaned flaxseed for EUR 1.015/kg EXW Poland, prices for golden flaxseed are at a level of EUR 1.20/kg EXW.
