Flaxseed: positive crop prospects in Canada

ASTANA/OTTAWA. While import tariffs on Russian flaxseed complicate long-term planning and create uncertainty in the market, market players are confident that smaller origins will not adjust their prices excessively, at least for the time being.

Experts remain confident

With the higher import duties on Russian flaxeed imports into the EU, the focus of traders and buyers is shifting towards significantly smaller origins. For example, flaxseed shipments from Ukraine and Moldova are becoming increasingly interesting for buyers, especially as farmers in both origins have already started harvesting the oilseed. In Kazakhstan, by far the most important country for growing flaxseed alongside Russia, growers were also able to start harvesting this week after slight delays due to rainfall.
