Flaxseed: prices continue to rise

OTTAWA/ASTANA. While the tariffs on flaxseed could be an opportunity for the Canadian flaxseed traders to expand shipments to the EU, a similar measure on exports to the USA could restrict trade with the neighbouring country.

Joys and sorrows

In anticipation of possible tariffs on flaxseed shipments from Canada to the US, trade between the two neighbouring North American countries is somewhat stagnant until there is clarity on the issue. Prices for shipments between December and February are at a level of CAD 17/bushel and could even rise slightly for spring dates. As the experts at Rayglen Commodities report, market players are still hoping for a chance to increase their exports to the EU this year, but competition from Kazakhstan and Ukraine is fierce.
