Flaxseed: Russia's area sown comes close to 2 million ha

NUR-SULTAN/MOSCOW. First impressions in Russia and Kazakhstan show that flaxseed production may be better than last year. Caution, however, prevails. The Kazakh Grain Union (KGU) has again lifted its estimates for sowing in Russia.

Restrictions still in place

Caution prevails as the war in Ukraine still has a huge impact on trade in the Black Sea Region and on the flaxseed market. Evgeny Karabanov, official representative of the Kazakh Grain Union, emphasises that it is not only the war but also the sanctions against Russia that are disrupting well-established supply chains. Deliveries, consequently, take longer, logistic costs have surged and some shipments are simply no longer possible.
