Flaxseed: worst crop result in over two decades

OTTAWA/NUR-SULTAN. Losses in the Canadian flaxseed market are becoming increasingly drastic. According to recent reports, the average yield per hectare is the lowest it has been in more than 20 years.

Prices are above average

Statistics Canada (STC) has once again drastically reduced the cultivation figures in the current season forecast. For more than two decades, the Canadian flaxseed crop has not been this bad, as preliminary data for the 2021/2022 season show. Experts reckon that about 400,000 ha can be harvested, but with an average yield of not even 1.0 mt/ha, farmers could achieve the worst result in a long time with only 379,000 mt of flaxseed this year.
