Flaxseed: significant cultivation increase in Kazakhstan

ASTANA/OTTAWA. According to information from the Kazakh Statistical Service, the acreage for Kazakh flaxseed is significantly larger than initially assumed. Other important producing countries have also increased their sowing. This is likely to be reflected in prices.

Global increase in production

Weather conditions remain favourable in large parts of Kazakhstan, giving hope for a good crop. The Kazakh Statistical Service estimates this year's flaxseed acreage at 1.35 million hectares, which would represent a whopping 54% increase over 2024. And it's not just Kazakhstan; other important producing countries have also significantly increased their sowings this year. In Russia, 1.79 million hectares (+6%) are expected to have been sown with flaxseed this year, Canadian farmers have expanded their acreage by 35% to 251,000 hectares,
