BERLIN. The German Farmers‘ Association is deeply concerned over extensive crop damages. In addition, the USDA has considerably cut the 2018/19 production estimates for wheat and rapeseed in Germany in the World Agricultural Production report for June.

 

Total damages expected in Germany

Due to the extremely hot temperatures in Spring the German Farmers’ Association expects a dramatic shortfall in production and demands support for the farmers. In a newspaper interview with “Bild am Sonntag” President Joachim Rukwied explains that “we have witnessed the hottest May on record.” The crops are drying out in the northern and eastern parts of Germany. “This is why we expect crop damages of as much 50-60% in some regions and even reckon with some total losses.
