Grains and oilseeds: shifting expectations

BRUSSELS. Although French wheat has been selling well in recent weeks, this is about to change. The Crop Tour has scaled back expectations for US corn. Top negotiators are fuelling expectations for soybeans. Big questions prevail for canola and rapeseed.

French wheat turns less competitive

French wheat has lost its competitiveness against Russian wheat, which has come down in price after Moscow suspended the export tariffs. Analyst IKAR has again raised the production estimate for Russia by 500,000 mt to 86 million mt, thereby also lifting the export estimate to 43 million mt. Reason are the larger crops in Siberia and in the Urals. France can consequently no longer profit from Russia’s reduced export supplies in August and September.
