ORDU. Everything could be well in the Turkish hazelnut market. Supplies are sufficient and the buyers simply love the currently low prices. Rumours over quality issues are, however, unsettling the market.

Sufficient supplies

Unconfirmed rumours stipulate that several deliveries had to be returned because the aflatoxin values were too high. This could pose a problem for the 100,000 mt which are still available. Turkey has almost exported 135,000 mt kernels this season. Annual domestic consumption ranges at 50,000 mt.

 Attractive prices

The export prices and raw nut prices are currently very attractive for buyers. Some suppliers are, however, hesitating to provide offers. This year’s crop is very promising. Frost damages may, however, still occur until the end of April.
