Hazelnuts: exports down sharply

ORDU/SALEM. High prices and low availability have caused Turkey's hazelnut exports to more than halve compared to the same period last year. The outlook in the US is much more positive.

Growers aim for higher prices

The situation on the Turkish hazelnut market is similar to that of recent weeks. High prices are dampening demand on both the domestic and export markets, leading to slight price declines for natural kernels and hazelnut paste. The raw material supply remains low, and farmers are aiming for higher prices; their target is to achieve TRY 400/kg, while the current raw material price is TRY 280-300/kg. Meanwhile, production costs continue to rise, as the monthly inflation rate in Turkey is above 3%.
