ORDU. The hazelnut trade in Turkey is counting on risk awareness of buyers and hoping they will buy eagerly in the weeks to come.

Great expectations
Farmers are holding back their goods hoping that later on, ideally after a severe frost, they will sell at considerably higher prices.
Market participants believe a slight increase in prices is just as likely as a decline. Frost damage to crops can occur until mid-April in hazelnut growing regions.

A weak start in exports
In the first week of 2017 4,200 mt of hazelnuts were exported from Turkey, clearly less than at the end of 2016. Raw material prices have now stabilized but due to the historically low Turkish Lira export prices have still dropped.
