ORDU. For hazelnuts the situation is highly uncertain in Turkey with calls being voiced for the TMO to intervene. Ferrero is also prompting nervous responses adn the weather has turned cold. Exports have exceeded 5,000 mt for the first time this season.

Calls on TMO to intervene

With inflation in Turkey at around 30%, current price levels are 17% lower than last August, and up to 60% lower compared to the peak levels at the end of September. This has created significant pressure on growers. There are increasing expectations for the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) to re-enter the market. Current levels imply around 30% losses for many holders. A high degree of uncertainty also prevails about the TMO pricing for next season. Overall, rising production and harvesting costs may force a reassessment of current market policies
