ORDU. Heated debates persist over the estimates issued by the Ministry of Agriculture. Next week’s Exporters Union’s forecast is to bring more clarity on this year’s crop size for hazelnuts. Expectation is also that the base price will cause some headache.

Ministry estimates provoke raised eyebrows

At long last crop estimates have started to be issued with the Ministry of Agriculture taking the lead last week. According to Ministry data in-shell hazelnut production will only reach 461,000 mt in Turkey in 2025, a shocking nearly 25% less than the 609,000 mt anticipated at the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Congress in May. This low figure has caused some irritation with traders emphasising that the Ministry has so far only announced estimates by region and that an official announcement has not been made yet.
