ORDU. Official figures show that exports have slumped by a stunning 52% for hazelnuts in Turkey this season. Exporters are blaming manipulators for reduced demand. Trading has revived again.

Exporters are complaining

Exporters state that many buyers are asking for prices but only few are taking up contracts. While they also report that their sales are normal for this time of year, official figures show quite a significant dent. In fact, while export volumes exceeded 100,000 mt in the first four months of the last two seasons, the volume ranges just below 65,000 mt in the current season. This is 52% down on last year.

The export value has declined by a more moderate 27% as average export prices have surged to a record high of USD 12.20/kg. Export
