Hazelnuts: Increase in elevated aflatoxin levels

ORDU. Political tensions between the US and Turkey have again resulted in a devaluation of the Turkish Lira. The hazelnut market responded by correcting the export prices.

 

Intervention purchases stabilise the market
The fall in prices over the last weeks is mainly due to exchange rate fluctuations. Contrary to this, the actual market situation would rather warrant an increase in prices. Since the beginning of the season, 40,000 mt of hazelnuts have been exported. Goods from the Eastern Black Sea region currently contain elevated aflatoxin levels. According to market players, this particularly affects smaller hazelnuts.
