Hazelnuts: market defies expectations

REUS/ORDU. Expectations over global production rising by 20% for hazelnuts in 2024/2025 have fuelled hopes that prices will fall. Yet, Turkey is confronted with other challenges at present, trouble is that the TMO may jump into action.

Conservative estimate for Turkey

Prospects are not only upbeat in Turkey but also in Italy. According to the figures presented at the Nut and Dried Fruit Council Congress in Vancouver global in-shell production will rise by 20% to 1.3 million mt in 2024/2025. Total supplies will even rise by 33% from 1.4 million mt in 2023/2024 to 1.5 million mt in 2024/2025. Expectation is that production will rebound by 21% in Turkey to 785,000 mt as news from the orchards is good.
