ORDU/BRUSSELS. A price gamble has gripped the market for hazelnuts in Turkey with much depending on Ferrero. Export prices have taken a rather curious turn. Chile has replaced Turkey as the main trading partner in the EU.

Exporters, who attended this week’s Anuga food and beverage fair in Cologne, report that it is extremely difficult to convince buyers to close contracts. Buyers are still cautious, despite being urged to act now and seize on the current advantageous price levels. Expectations, however, differ. While exporters in Turkey emphasise that prices will rise again very soon, international player Olam highlights that global market dynamics are quite different.
