ORDU. Things are not as they seem for hazelnuts in Turkey. Although the offers issued by the TMO for the new crop appear to be over the top, the reality is quite different. Speculations concerning the new crop are running wild.

Despite the TMO bids ranging much higher than in recent years, prices are far from attractive for farmers. At TRY 130/kg for Levant quality and TRY 132/kg for Giresun quality in-shell hazelnuts the TMO’s purchasing bids, in fact, stand as much as 57% higher than at the start of 2023/2024. These offers are based on a 50% yield and the state-run organisation pays producers a premium of TRY 1.30/kg for higher yields.
