ORDU. In Turkey, the possibility of an early presidential election may very well drive the new crop prices for hazelnuts. Quality is an issue, not only because of the more widespread presence of the brown marmorated stink bug. Export demand appears to be turning.

Election campaign may drive new crop prices

Expectation is that Turkey’s grain board, the TMO, will set a minimum price of around TRY 250/kg (USD 5.42/kg) for the 2026 crop, which will be 25% higher than last season. This appears reasonable considering increases given to other agricultural commodities in the season. Another reason is that an early election is possible in Turkey in 2027. As the Ordu region is one of the biggest supporters of the current government an early election decision will render a higher minimum price very probable.
