Hazelnuts: Suppliers expect risk premiums

ORDU. Turkish hazelnut traders run certain risks offering their customers long-term contracts this season. Therefore, market players assume that the prices will not be completely free of speculation.

 

TMO should purchase at least 150,000 mt

Since the start of the season, Turkish exporters have exported more than 54,000 mt of hazelnuts – 60% more than same time last year. Prices are more than 35% lower than last year, not least because of intervention buying-ins by the TMO, the weaker Turkish Lira, and good availability. Prices have remained largely stable over the last few months, tending to fall slightly.

To date, the TMO has purchased around 80,000 mt of hazelnuts from farmers, with a further 75.000 mt already registered. Thus, the
