ORDU. Bids did not live up to the TMO’s expectations in last week’s tender for hazelnuts. Wide price gaps prevail. Good news concerning the 2025 crop has emerged in the orchards. Economic indicators are somewhat promising for Turkey.

Failed gamble on higher bids

On Friday, the tender held by the TMO to sell 10,000 mt of in-shell hazelnuts from the 2022 crop did not go according to plan. In total, 22 companies took part in the tender wanting to buy 9,600 mt. Yet, the base price stood at TRY 150/kg and the highest bid issued was only TRY 152/kg with buyers clearly demonstrating that they are not prepared to pay more. Bids clearly fell short of the state-run organisation’s expectations as the tender was then cancelled.

Now, the TMO is offering 5,300 mt of Levant quality in-shell hazel
