Hazelnuts: TMO prices highly divisive

ORDU. Earlier than expected the TMO has announced the purchasing bids for the 2025 hazelnut crop. The move has sparked quite a bit of controversy. Ferrero should offer better payment conditions. Exporters are discussing their prices for the new crop. Harvesting is about to start.

High TMO bids

On Tuesday, the TMO announced the purchasing bids for the 2025 crop. Not only did the announcement come earlier than anticipated indicating that the state-run organisation bowed to public pressure in part at least, but the prices have also sparked quite a bit of debate, highlighting the divide between producers and exporters.

Based on 50% intact hazelnuts the TMO is offering TRY 200/kg for in-shell Giresun hazelnuts and TRY 195/kg for Levant quality nuts. On top of this, the TMO will pay a premium of TRY 4/kg for every additional 1% yield for G
