REUS. Prospects are highly encouraging for macadamias this year as the latest estimates issued by the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council highlight.

Encouraging projections

Crop projections are highly encouraging for macadamias this year with production expected to rise in all origins. Anticipation is that global in-shell production will rise by 17% to 392,980 mt as compared with the 336,885 mt produced in 2025. Global kernel production will also rise by 18% from 88,705 mt in 2025 to 104,591 mt in 2026.

In China, favourable weather conditions, better farm management and new varieties will boost production this year. For South Africa the estimate is still preliminary. Yet, the weather has also been favourable here and new orchards are turning productive, which should offset lower crop inputs. Australia is anticipating a sharp recovery after a disappointing crop year in 2025. Issue is that growing conditions are better this year and that young plants are reaching maturity.
