CANBERRA. The Australian Macadamia Society released the final production result of the Australian macadamia crop 2019.

More than expected

So far, experts had reckoned a crop of around 42,900 metric tonnes (3.5% moisture). The crop was thereby reduced by 13% compared to last year (2018: 49,300 metric tonnes), partly caused by the drought. The Australian Macadamia Society (AMS) has now increased the final result to 43,500 metric tonnes. In spite of the unusually long and dry summer, the crop of 2019 is also of good quality. According to Jolyon Burnett, CEO of AMS, it is still too early to forecast the 2020 crop. However, the continuing drought in all growing regions is likely to have a negative impact on yields.
