Millet: Russia's crop shrinks by 28%

DALIAN/MOSCOW. Low demand is putting pressure on prices on the Chinese market. Meanwhile, Russia has achieved significantly lower millet production in the current 2024/2025 season than in the previous year.

Cultivation is declining

Weak demand has caused prices in the Chinese millet market to fall to a record low, according to traders. The first estimates regarding cultivation forecasts are to be made in the coming days. Prices for hulled millet remain at USD 960/mt FOB Dalian, while offers for organic millet are holding at USD 1,050/mt FOB Dalian.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture is forecasting a slight decline in cultivation for this year's crop, with around 85,500 hectares to be planted this year. In 2024, however, 90,000 hectares were still sown, with
