KYIV/DALIAN. Farmers in Ukraine have started sowing the spring crop. However, the millet acreage is expected to be even smaller than previously assumed.

Decline in cultivation in Ukraine

In the first half of March, Ukrainian farmers began sowing for the coming grain and pulses crop. A total of 5.764 million hectares are to be sown across the country this spring, compared to 5.702 million hectares in 2024. Although the acreage is expected to be larger overall, millet sowing could shrink by around 3,100 ha year-on-year to 85,200 ha. At the beginning of the year, the Ukrainian Ministry of Agriculture had estimated the sowing area at 85,500 ha.
