OTTAWA/BRUSSELS. In Canada, mustard seed sowing is nearing completion. The seasonal forecasts remain positive. Kazakhstan is showing a strong market presence this season.

Unwaveringly optimistic

By the end of May, mustard seed sowing in Canada is slowly drawing to a close. As the experts at Rayglen Commodities report, the windy weather conditions in the growing regions were not always ideal; at the same time, however, they note that sowing benefited from rainfall in southern Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Prices have been relatively stable for months now, and given the abundant stocks, this is unlikely to change any time soon. Yellow mustard seeds of the 2025 crop are quoted at CAD 0.40/lb, while the new crop is trading at prices of CAD 0.40–0.42/lb depending on the delivery date.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has published its latest seasonal report. In this report, the forecasts for sowing, harvest, yield, etc. remain unchanged. Only the expected average price has been reduced in view of the potentially high availability and, at CAD 850/mt, would actually be lower than in the previous two years.
