Oilseeds update: crop damage in India

FRANKFURT. Monitoring of the oilseed sector with day-to-day price comparisons.

Sesame seed traders are not only reporting crop damage in India, but also in Sudan and China the crop volume is said to be smaller. The Indian region of Gujarat is particularly affected by the precipitation, the rain is said to have damaged up to 40% of the crop in some places, with a total of 30% of the land affected. A total of 15-20% of the Indian sesame seed crop is said to be affected.

NEW DELHI. In India the prospects for sesame seeds are highly encouraging. On 04 May the Indian Oilseeds and Produce Export Promotion Council (IOPEPC) will issue a first estimate for the summer crop. Weak demand is, however, proving a challenge for exporters.
