NEW DELHI/ATLANTA. In India, several factors could prove to be a strain on peanut prices in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, USDA estimates for the US crop remain stable. Demand, however, leaves much to be desired.

Farmers are selling only gradually

Although the Indian peanut market is showing a slight upward trend this week, overall, factors that are likely to weigh on prices in the short term predominate. Accordingly, the market situation remains subdued. In Gujarat, the most important producing state, the government has already purchased around 1.6 million mt out of a total production of 4.2-4.3 million mt.
