Pine nuts: EU buyers far from cautious

BRUSSELS/DALIAN. EU buyers may be importing less, yet they have spent a record amount on pine nuts this year so far. International buyers are, however, way too cautious for suppliers in China.

EU buys less but spends more

In the first six months of 2026, EU imports were 11% shy of last year’s record 5,000 mt for shelled pine nuts. Yet, this still marks the second highest volume on record. In terms of value, however, imports rose by 18% to a record EUR 115 million (USD 132 million) as compared with the EUR 98 million (USD 112 million) registered in the first half of 2025.

China has maintained its leading position, but the import volume is 3% off. By contrast, shipments form Turkey have surged by 45%, whereas imports from Mongolia are showing
