Pistachios: 2018/19 crop estimates

SACRAMENTO. Global production is set to rise by 30% as compared to last year. US production is even estimated to increase by 60%.

 

US exports

Production may have declined in 2017, but exports and domestic consumption have increased this season. The US has so far shipped 231,696 mt of in shells this season – a year-on-year rise of 4%.

The market witnessed a nominal decline in exports in May to 10.708 mt (May 2017: 10,971 mt). Shipment within the US, however, rose by 4.6% tp 6,833 mt as compared to last year.

With 72,000 mt the large part of production is consumed within the domestic market. The most important export markets are China (43,696 mt), Hong Kong (28,044 mt) and Germany (13,425 mt)

Lower production in Iran?

According to INC estimated announced at the end of May global production is projected to rise by 30% to 767,388 mt. Due to this season’s lower carry over stock supplies are, however, only expected to rise by 8.6% to 820,472 mt.

Producers in the US expect a similar production as in 2016/17. Iran and Turkey are, however, confronted with severe differences in production to last year.
