TEHRAN/BRUSSELS. Things are coming to a head between Iran and the EU over aflatoxin. To make the situation worse, the automotive industry has also turned to pistachios. Yet, exports are doing rather well. EU imports have surged.

Troublemaker aflatoxin

Confusion reigns in Iran over a potential export ban to the EU. While some news site vehemently insist that the EU effectively issued an import ban for pistachios in November, government representatives have clarifyied that no such thing exists. In a brief statement highlighted in local media Gholamreza Nouri, the Iranian Minister of Agriculture, spoke of technical issues that will be resolved but failed to go into detail about the six-month period the EU Commission has granted to improve quality.
