ISTANBUL. News from Turkey is not good. Not only is political upheaval once again dominating the scene, but recent weather events are also impacting pistachios, whereby frost is not the only issue.

Political chaos has a big impact

With nothing less than democracy at stake in Turkey turmoil is affecting the entire economy and pistachios. Not only was leading opposition figure Ekrem İmamoğlu arrested last week only shortly before being nominated as presidential candidate for the Republican People’s Party (CHP) but President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ensuing crackdown on protesters and journalists is also giving rise to chaos.
