ISTANBUL. Frost and other developments are fuelling speculations in Turkey. EU buyers have turned lucky. Exports are going well for pistachios this season.

Differing impact

Turkey witnessed severe frost events in mid-April with temperatures dropping as low as -15C (5F). This has also affected pistachios. The impact varies across regions. Frost damages mainly occurred in the provinces of Kahramanmaraş and Adıyaman. In Gaziantep, a major pistachio-producing region, reports state that the damage is minimal. Local agricultural authorities note that frost did not significantly harm the trees in this area, which is a relief to farmers.

Lucky EU buyers
