Pistachios: high demand and challenging outlook

TEHRAN. Iranian pistachios are in high demand this season. Self-imposed sanctions are, however, limiting the industry's potential. An EU import ban prompted by high aflatoxin levels may be avoided. Prospects for the 2025/2026 season are not exactly encouraging.

Exporters seize the day

Attractive prices have driven up Iran’s pistachio exports this season. Not only did production exceed expectations, but the Dubai chocolate hype has fuelled demand, whereas US inventories have been rather limited. Trump’s tariffs also prompted Chinese buyers to turn to the country as of February as the Iran Pistachio Association (IPA) reports. Demand for kernels is exceptionally high.
