Pistachios: production makes a full recovery

TEHRAN. The Ministry of Agriculture of Iran has issued official production estimates, that outstrip market expectations by far. Exports are expected to climb. A drastic shift in prices is also being reported.

Production estimated at 300,000 metric tonnes

The Ministry of Agriculture estimates production at 300,000 metric tonnes, which renders this year one of the most productive on record. This figure, however, outstrips initial expectations by far. While the INC reckoned that production ranges at 200,000 metric tonnes, market players within Iran had anticipated a production of 220,000-250,000 metric tonnes. The Ministry states that growing conditions were ideal this year, whereas a cold shock had an adverse impact on production last year. Pest controls were also in place
