Pistachios: the race is on

TEHRAN. Iran’s pistachio production has bounced back this year and prices are competitive. The race is on for suppliers to ship volumes before Christmas and Chinese New Year.

Global market challenges

After two years of decline production has bounced back to 200,000-210,000 mt according to the Iranian Pistachio Association. Yet, traders emphasise that these figures only comprise dried pistachios and do not include fresh pistachios that are consumed domestically, of which supplies range at 20,000-30,000 mt. Current inventories, in fact, stand at a higher 240,000 mt as last year’s carry-over supplies amount to 30,000 mt.
