SACRAMENTO. As the November shipment report issued by the Administrative Committee for Pistachios shows demand has reshuffled in Asia. Mixed patterns have emerged in Europe. US crop receipts have reached a record.

Reshuffle in Asia

November was another strong export month for US pistachios. At 175 million pounds total monthly shipments stood 9% higher than the 159 million pounds recorded in November 2024. As domestic shipments took a 2% dip to just below 19 million pounds, exports are the sole driver. They rose by 11% to 155 million pounds.

Grand total year-to-date shipments stand 16% higher at 372 million pounds with domestic shipments 2% up at 64 million pounds and exports 19% higher at 308 million pounds. The most noted shift that has taken place this year so far is the sharp rise in exports to Vietnam, which have surged nearly fivefold to 92 million pounds. Shipments to Hong Kong have witnessed an even sharper rise of 823% to 39 million pounds. By contrast, exports to former top destination China have slumped by 89%. At 177 million pounds exports to Asia as a whole stand 10% higher than the 160 million pounds witnessed last year.

Strong demand in Europe and Africa/Middle East

Exports to Germany have declined by 17%. Yet, shipments to Europe as a region are showing mixed trends with exports to Italy and Spain up. Altogether US exports to Europe have risen by 11% to 68 million pounds as compared with the 61 million pounds registered last year. Exports to Turkey have also more than doubled as the market is relying on imports to prevent further price rises. Export to the Middle East/Africa have surged by 88% to 49 million pounds as opposed to the 27 million pounds recorded last year.
