Pistachios: subdued demand weighs on market

KERMAN/SACRAMENTO. Growers have completed the pistachio harvest in Iran's southern Kerman Province. Conditions are ideal to accelerate cultivation here. US export have risen sharply in September.

South Kerman to step up production

Although pistachio cultivation is relatively small in Iran's southern Kerman Province as an area of only around 586 ha are cultivated, of which only 305 ha are fertile, there is much potential here. Production, however, witnessed a setback this year. Growers harvested as little as 370 mt of fresh pistachios between 1 September and 2 October, of which only around 123 mt will remain after shelling, drying and classification.
