ISTANBUL/BRUSSELS. Although production is expected to decline sharply in Turkey this year, a supply squeeze is out of the question for pistachios. Traders are quite relaxed about the conflict between Israel and Iran. Challenges prevail in Syria, despite Trump lifting sanctions this week. EU spending has soared by 29% in the first six months of the year.

No supply squeeze in Turkey

Turkey’s pistachio crop may be expected to slump by 65% this year, yet exporters are unperturbed by this. As Turkey will witness an off-year production will remain a far cry from last year’s record 415,500 mt at only 143,000 mt according to the most recent INC estimate. Frost and orchard stress will also impact the crop. Yet, it should be noted that the country will carry a substantial carry-over stock of 243,400 mt into the new season, which should drive up supplies to 386,400 mt in 2025/2026.
